Thursday, 11th of november 2012,
I just departed from Linz, the third biggest city in Austria, with the river Danube piercing through, and now I'm heading towards Salzburg.
Linz is considered a cultural city, probably because of its many festivals supported by the municipality and various happenings organized by indipendent stages and bars. At least that's what I've read, because I never left the hostel, to actually witness it. (The reason for that will be revealed later on).
But let's take it from the start...
At first I knew nothing about Linz. What to see, visit, taste or experience. And I still don't. But Linz was a good one-night stop (not 'stand') on my way to salzburg. I hadn't booked any accomondation, hadn't told anyone about it, so there was no street paved with red roses for me. only two lines of bad instructions of how to find a youth hostel. So, at that time, I wasn't all that psyched. And that lack of excitement was augmented to a light frustration thanks to 1 hour round-the-neighborhood walk (I was feverently trying to map the place and decipher the instructions in order to find the hostel), and the youth hostel, itself, for ripping me off of my 24€ for one night and one membership card. Eventually my whining inner-self started getting on my nerves. There are some serious shyte in the world to whine about and my mellow day in Linz was not one of them. So I actually did what I've always been doing right from the beginning of this journey. I talked to the first person I saw next to me. And this time it wasn't just one, but a whole pack. They were an interesting-looking company of young people doing some out-of-place stuff while I was trying to check-in. And they caught my attention. So, I thought I should ask. They were very friendly right from the start, andjust after a five-minute chit-chat they invited me to hang out with them later on, in case I felt lonely. That was a very thoughtful, very kind gesture and it really cheered me up. (They were all taking part in a 10-day course on digital art, and I was lucky enough to bump into them on their team-building day). So I did join them. and there was Leo, and there was Katia, and Maria, (some beautiful, young souls), with games, and dancing, and food and people from all over europe explaining more about their countries.
Quite a pleasantly unexpected day, that one. I thanked Lady Luck for that and went straight to bed. I was travelling to Salzburg in the morning.
About my present and future location now... Fotis is hosting me at the moment in Duesseldorf and I'll be departing in tomorrow for Lisbon. Then I'll be spending my last 10 days of Europe in Portugal, and fly right afterwards to Buenos Aires. In Argentina, I'm planning to wander around for at least 3 weeks. And although I was planning to avoid Patagonia, EVERYone's urging me to go, so I'll do it. It's the best time of the year to visit it after all, and I'm not sure if I'll get a second chance, being so close and all.
I'll try to upload some photos as well.
But for now, stay safe everyone! Safe and joyful!
